Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Michael Archangel in Trzemeszno - church from the first half of the 12th century, built in the basilica form. Initially built in the Romanesque style, rebuilt in the Gothic style, and then rebuilt and expanded in the second half of the eighteenth century on the initiative of the abbot, MichaÅ‚ Kosmowski. During the Second World War, he was robbed of all valuable items by the Germans and turned into a military warehouse. Burnt on January 21, 1945, when the Wehrmacht soldiers left the city, rebuilt in the 1950s and 1960s along with a thorough reconstruction of interior furnishings. It is a baroque, three-nave structure, with a huge dome and a nave running around the central part. Fragments of Romanesque buildings (including powerful columns) and Gothic. Furnishings and baroque polychrome (frescos by Franciszek Smuglewicz). October 28, 1969, the parish church was raised to the dignity of the basilica smaller by Paul VI. With the power of the Eastern Concordat concluded with the Holy See in 1737, the kings of Poland had the right to appoint here the commanding abbots.
