The Piast Trail
TRACES OF THE BEGINNINGS OF THE POLISH STATE
In the heart of "MAIOR POLONIA" - Wielka Polska there is a unique trail - called the Piast Trail. Among hundreds of other routes this one is unique. Its uniqueness is evidenced by monuments of material culture accumulated along its course. Monuments from the establishment of Polish statehood to modern times. The trail passes through two historical districts of Poland: Greater Poland and Kuyavia. Its origins date back to the times before the rise of Polish statehood and arose from the name of the protoplast of the first Polish dynasty of Piast Kolodziej, called Piastunem-teacher. He lived in the vicinity of today's Kruszwica, and after removing the cruel prince Popiel, called Chwaścisk, from the throne, he was elected a prince. His successors formed the foundations of Polish statehood. The lands lying within the Piast Trail were the cradle of the newly emerging state. It is probably on Ostrów Lednicki Island, Prince Mieszko I, who receives baptism, introducing Poland into the orbit of the influences of Christian culture.
The trail starts in Poznań and continues north through Pobiedziska, Moraczewo, Ostrów Lednicki, Gniezno, Trzemeszno, Mogilno, Strzelno, Kruszwica, Inowrocław, Kościelec Kujawski, Pakość, Barcin, Lubostroń, Żnin, Venice, Biskupin, Gąsawa, Marcinkowo Górne, Rogowo, to Gniezno.
