OBJECTS ON THE COPERNICUS TRAIL

The route of the Copernicus trail goes mainly through the places where Nicolaus Copernicus lived and worked. It starts in Olsztyn, where the astronomer in 1516-1521 was the administrator of the Warmian Chapter's goods. Then it goes through Dobre Miasto (where, among others, the collegiate Church of the Holy Savior and All Saints - the second largest temple in Warmia) towards Lidzbark Warmiński, where the Castle of Warmian bishops is located. Then the trail runs in the direction of Pieniężno, which houses the 14th-century church of St. Peter and Paul and the Castle of the Warmia Chapter from the same century. Next, the trail goes to Braniewo, the first seat of the Warmian bishops and the Warmia chapter. From Braniewo, the route leads to Frombork, the place where he lived for many years, died and buried Copernicus. In this city there are m.in. Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Andrzej and the Museum of Nicolaus Copernicus. Then the trail goes to Elbląg, the oldest city in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, from where it goes towards Kępki, the place where the Pomeranian section of the 118 km long route begins. In the Pomeranian Voivodeship it runs, among others through Malbork, where there is a Teutonic castle - one of the largest preserved complexes of Gothic architecture in the world. The end of the Pomeranian section is located in Gardei. From there, the trail enters the territory of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, where its route ends in Toruń, the birthplace of the astronomer.
