The creation of the PaÅ‚uk Region Museum in Å»nin in 1963 was the culmination of many years of efforts and the fulfillment of the dreams of activists of the PaÅ‚ucki Branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. With time, the museum in Wschowa became a branch of the District Museum. Leon WyczóÅ‚kowski, to become an institution administered by the municipality of Å»nin in the early 90s. The museum is located in the historic buildings of the center of Å»nin: in the magistrate building erected at the beginning of the 20th century and the gothic town hall tower from the 15th century.
In the Tower you can now see the exhibition devoted to Znin's history from the earliest times. They are gathered here, among others relics showing the first traces of settlement in Pałuki - the effect of many years archaeological research of the region. Interesting is also the history of the local Fowler Brotherhood - one of the oldest in Greater Poland, founded by burghers - artisans and merchants in 1424. The museum exhibition presents insignia, medals and a regester from the late 18th century.
A separate exhibition are memorabilia associated with the Greater Poland Uprising - the only national-liberation outbreak in Poland that has been successfully completed. It was in 1919 that the inhabitants of Żnin, equally dissatisfied with the effects of the Versailles conference (ending World War I, Wielkopolska was supposed to be within the borders of Prussia), what the rest of the inhabitants of the region actively participated in disarming the Prussian troops, thus showing their willingness Belonging to Poland and participating in the reconstruction of the partitioned area of the partitioned Poland.
The exhibition dedicated to the outstanding figures of Znin and the region supplements the exhibition in the town hall tower. There were born beautiful scientists of the Age of Enlightenment, co-founder of the Third May Constitution - Jan and JÄ™drzej Åšniadeccy. Outstanding personalities were much more here. It is worth mentioning about Jakub from Å»nin - the archbishop of Gniezno, from whose initiative Pope Innocent II in 1136 issued the famous Gniezno Bull - one of the first administrative documents covering the twelfth-century Poland. In this document, along with 29 other PaÅ‚uki towns, Å»nin found itself as a market settlement with an early-city character, and therefore quite significant. Jakub's portrait is in vain to look at the exhibition. There are, however, images of Erasmus Gliczner - born in nearby Laski Wielkie (today GÄ…sawa commune) - leader of Lutheran, pedagogue, author of the first Polish dissertation on raising children, Klemens Janicki - the most famous Polish Renaissance poet (writing in Latin), born in PodnaÅ„ski Januszków, MÅ›cisÅ‚awa Wartenberg - philosopher, professor at the University of Jan Kazimierz in Lviv and Wanda Dobaczewska - writer, author of, among others many popular novels for young people. On the top floor of the Town Hall Tower you can see the mechanism of the 18th century clock. The windows offer a view of the tenement houses surrounding the harvest market and the waters of the MaÅ‚e Å»niÅ„skie Lake. The main building of the Museum of the PaÅ‚uty Region in Å»nin is the City Hall building today. Built in 1906 (not yet completed) it was initially the seat of the municipal authorities of Å»nin. Later he performed many other functions. From the mid-1990s, it houses the administration of the facility and permanent exhibitions devoted to the history of printing, ethnography and motorboat sports. Collections are also collected and processed here, and Galeria im. Tadeusz MaÅ‚achowski - temporary exhibitions room, in which mainly works of artists connected with the region and modern art are exhibited. The "Ethnography PaÅ‚uk" exhibition presents sculptures, folk embroidery, plaiting, interior decorations and various equipment and tools used in the past on PaÅ‚uki farms. Traditional costumes, wooden and clay sculptures and paintings are presented here. The interior of the hut equipped with the necessary household appliances is also reconstructed.
