TEUTONIC CASTLE IN SZTUM

Castle in Sztum - a medieval castle in Sztum (Pomeranian Voivodeship) located on Lake Sztumskie (Zajezierskie), located at Galla Anonima street.
Built in the Gothic style by the Teutonic Order in the years 1326-1335, on the polygon plan with two towers, in the place of the Old Prussian castle. He was the seat of the mayor of the Teutonic Order. In 1410 in Polish hands. After the Thirteen Years' War, in the years 1468-1772, it was the seat of Polish starosts. Destroyed during the Swedish wars in the 17th century, it was partially demolished by the Prussian authorities. In 1867, the courthouse and prison building was added to the cellars of the southern wing.
Two wings rebuilt in the 19th century have survived, in the northern corner the stump of the prison tower, in the north-western corner the remains of the gate tower and the circumferential walls 8 meters high. The former seat of the Sztumski Center for Culture.
At the turn of 2017 and 2018, the castle in Sztum became a branch of the Castle Museum in Malbork.
