RUINS OF THE POMEZANIAN BISHOPS' CASTLE
LOCALIZATION ON THE MAP
It was the seat of the Pomezanian bishops until the secularization of Prussia in 1525. Later it became one of the seats of the Prince of Prussia. After a fire in 1688, only some outbuildings were rebuilt, and the castle's wings were rebuilt into barracks, a lazaret and warehouses. After the next fire in 1787, only a few military buildings were rebuilt. Walking around this place, we can see fragments of the inner wall and foundations of buildings from the 19th century. Archaeological works are currently underway to reveal fragments of the castle's buildings and turn them into a permanent ruin and observation deck. From the castle ruins there is a view of Lake Liwieniec. It is a reserve of waterfowl and marsh birds. Formerly, the lake reached the walls and played an important role in the defensive functions of the castle. We leave the castle with the same dirt path we entered and at the end we turn right, on ul. Mazury. Turning around we see the outer walls of the castle in all its splendor, because their height is about 10 m. It is an ideal place for a commemorative photo. The model of the Pomezanian Bishops Castle stood on top of the ruins in 2009, shows the reconstruction of the Castle in the dimensions of 4.5 mx 5 m, 1:16 scale and reflects in detail the appearance of this magnificent building from its magnificence.
The remains of the castle are located on the scarp on Lake Liwieniec, not far from the concatedra.
