SANCTUARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY ON JASNA GÓRA IN CZĘSTOCHOWA
The beginning of the shrine dates back to the second half of the fourteenth century, when Prince Wladyslaw Opolczyk brought from Hungary, in 1382, to Częstochowa Pauline, who "brought" the name of the monastery. According to legend, the painting was painted by Saint. The researchers claim that it dates from the second half of the first millennium and is the work of a Byzantine painter. As early as in the 15th century, Jasna Gora became a popular pilgrimage place, but the true flourishing of Marian devotion came in the seventeenth century. In Czestochowa Popes, kings, aristocrats, statesmen and representatives of all social classes prayed. Jasna Gora witnessed great historical events, such as the famous defense against the Swedes in the 17th century or Jasna Gora's Wedding of the Polish Nation in 1956. At present Jasna Gora is visited by up to 5 million pilgrims every year.
The buildings of the monastery complex preserved until today are beginning to appear in the 15th century. Gothic is among others the chancel of the basilica of Jasna Gora. In the 17th century the monastery was fortified according to the most modern ones of the time and rebuilt in Baroque style. From this period comes a larger part of the Basilica and Chapel of the Miraculous Image, the chapel of St. Antoni, tower, refectory or room called Knight. 18th century decor a collection of about 15,000 incunabula, manuscripts and old prints. An important building of the 20th century is the Chapel of Remembrance of the Nation, which serves as a mausoleum. Valuable blessings and thanksgiving are collected in the Jasnogorsk Treasury, which is located above the sacristy. The Museum of the 600th anniversary of the Jasna Gora is also open in 1982. Augustine Kordecki's figures, Cardinal Stefan WyszyÅ„ski and Pope John Paul II were honored at Jasna Góra with magnificent monuments.
