THE PIESKOWA SKAŁA CASTLE

From Sławków we take an asphalt road to Cracow. We pass Olkusz, in Sienna turn left and go to Sułoszowa. Winding road at some point starts to run down the valley, which from the stream taking the origin here is called the Valley of Prądnik. Soon the first limestone cliffs will appear, which in time will bring the feature of a permanent element of the landscape, and at the top of one of them from a distance can see the castle.

Castle in Pieskowa Skała was built in the times of Casimir the Great as a Gothic watchtower and was located slightly higher on a rock called Dorotka. In 1377 Ludwik Węgierski handed over the castle to the Szafrancy family, which was its seat until 1608. At that time it was expanded and became a typical Renaissance seat of magnates. A new building was built at the site of the former podzamcza. In 1640 the castle became the property of Michał Zebrzydowski, who fortified him. In 1718 the fire destroyed the building, but it was rebuilt 60 years later by Hieronim Wielopolski. In the second half of the 19th century it was owned by the Mieroszewskis and they were renovated after another fire in 1850.

After 1905 the castle was bought in order to organize a guest house. It was only after the Second World War that in 1948-64, thorough research was carried out, followed by construction. In this way, it was restored to its greatest glory. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque park, at its foot there are ponds established in the 16th century. Today it is the seat of the Wawel Royal Castle Museum.

Having passed the ponds, we are shown the most characteristic rock in the area of the Jurassic - Hercules club. And we follow the winding road towards Ojcow.
